HARNESSING THE POWER OF YOUR MIND
TO GROW YOUR MODELING CAREER

In my last message I wrote that simply being the best
looking person in a crowd won’t be enough for you to make it
as a successful model.

I also said that many of the most successful models I’ve met
and worked with would not be considered physically “perfect”
by any means–yet they enjoyed great careers. Often in fact
their careers have lasted longer and have been more
financially successful than those of some more physically
beautiful models.

Modeling is somewhat like professional sports in this
respect, where one’s natural physical gifts are not the most
important predictor of success.

The professional model, like the professional athlete, must
not only develop and perfect his or her physical gifts, they
must also build within them a solid inner foundation, a
foundation based on the way they use their mind. This inner
foundation will carry them much farther than their physical
gifts alone ever could.

Muhammad Ali, who was perhaps the greatest boxer who ever
lived, backs me up on that. He said:

“Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from
something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream and
a vision.”

What he’s saying here is that it’s not the physical so much
as the mental that creates a winner.

It’s what’s happening on the inside of us, through our
thinking, which has infinitely more power over the results
we get in our lives than do our outer conditions and
circumstances.

It’s very important for you to understand that the way you
think is directly linked to everything that’s happening in
your outside world–including your degree of success as a
model.

I can attest to this for sure from my own experience as a
high fashion model and now as a model scout.

Now I’m not saying that the physical is not an important
element in succeeding as a model, because it is! I am
saying, though, that the physical alone is simply not
enough. I’m saying that without the right mental tools, it
will be very difficult to attain lasting success, no matter
how fantastic your physical gifts may be.

In other words, what is most important in modeling–and in
life–is what we develop on the inside. Our inner gifts and
strengths have the power to fill in the gaps and overcome
where the physical aspects fall short.

I have seen this time and again, both as a model and as
someone scouting for models. A person will enter the
casting room and although they aren’t as tall, or thin, as
young or beautiful or some other physical attribute as the
others in that same room, because of their inner power they
just come in and take over–and the job is theirs! They
have such inner confidence, such charisma and a positive
attitude that all we can see is that. No one is even looking
at their physical ‘faults’.

I always say, “Photoshop can retouch anything but your
attitude.” Don’t make the mistake of thinking that to
succeed as a model you can rely on your physical gifts
alone. Your inner self–your thoughts are crucial.

In my next email I want to talk about a very specific kind
of thought, perhaps the most important of all for your
modeling career. In fact when you understand its true power
you’ll see that you can use it to help you achieve almost
anything.

This special kind of thought was key to my own success as a
high fashion model and it can be a powerful help in your
career too, I promise.
